Minister of Culture and Tourism Ersoy Welcomes George Miller

Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy met with the Mad Max film franchise’s Academy Award–winning director George Miller and producer Doug Mitchell.

During the meeting, Miller provided Minister Ersoy details about his latest film project, Three Thousand Years of Longing, part of which he intends to shoot in Türkiye.

Minister Ersoy expressed how glad he was to welcome major figures in the global film industry like Miller and Mitchell to Türkiye and said he was delighted that they had chosen the country as one of the shooting locations for their long-awaited new film.

 

Foreign Producers’ Interest in Türkiye on the Rise following the New Cinema Law

Thanks to the new Cinema Law of 2019, foreign producers are now eligible for a cash rebate of up to 30 percent on expenses incurred in Türkiye. Noting Türkiye’s highly developed technical infrastructure and its character as a natural film set, Ersoy said Türkiye is well on its way to becoming an important center for film shooting and added that the country would host an increasing number of international projects in future.

Producer Mitchell said that Türkiye is a wonderful country to shoot in and touted the attractive incentives it offers foreign producers. Director Miller said that he wanted to show Türkiye's unparalleled beauty and touristic potential in his film. He also said that he was especially impressed by Istanbul Airport, adding that he had never seen its like. During the roughly one-hour meeting, the three discussed a number of possible shooting locations, including the Topkapı Palace Museum, Istanbul Airport, the Hagia Irene Church, and the Pera Palace Hotel.
